I have been quietly working away when I can on both the Christmas angels and also the Christmas aprons.
I decided from the outset I definitely wanted to ensure the aprons proved to be protective when in use, so my aim throughout this specific project is to look at both including an inner liner as well as also an actual back lining for each apron.
It is so much better when you wear an apron and it does in fact keep your clothing clean and tidy, so this was definitely one of my considerations when looking at what the final resulting aprons would be like.
Doing additional linings adds time and also requires additional materials to be used. I am aiming to use my current stash of fabrics first and foremost when it comes to sourcing fabric for these various additional linings.
The main fabric of course for this apron was that sourced from the Christmas themed duvet cover that I repurposed (I shared about how this was a great charity shop find in my previous blogpost). This particular apron was constructed from the duvet cover panel side that clearly had the gingerbread characters on it. I have enough material to make two aprons in total from this particular panel. I will be working on the second gingerbread apron very soon.
It has taken several days to work away at the planning and actual construction of the first apron, and I am delighted to have got to the end of today and have it finally completed.
It took time to problem solve how to go about making this project. For instance, it was necessary to take time to step by step determine how wide and long I wanted the apron ties. Going forward, I will use this very first completed apron as a pattern and point of reference for the construction and making of the others.
I decided to topstitch various components along the way when doing the construction, and overall the final resulting outcome is one I am really happy with.
Topstitching not only makes everything that bit more securely held, it also helps towards the way everything sits and lies once it is sewn in place. I personally think topstitching sometimes adds that last final additional polish on the presentation and overall appearance front as well.
Here is some photographs of the first completed Christmas themed kitchen apron, one amongst several of those I am working away at creating.
I am pleased this apron is finished, and I value the lessons I learnt whilst working step by step away at making & constructing it.
