There appears to be something of a treacle and brown sugar shortage. At least three stores I have been to have neither in supply.

I wonder if there is a national shortage currently?

A while ago at the local supermarket in the closest township there were recall notifications for certain packs of sugar. If I rightly remember, it was certain packs of raw sugar and other sugar products being recalled and I think it had something to do with levels of lead being discovered by standard food manufacturing safety tests?

I wonder if this is all somehow linked?

Perhaps the local manufacturer and packager of such sugar products as treacle and brown sugar are waiting on replacement equipment components to come into the country, if there was faulty machinery and it is indeed all somehow linked??

Perhaps they are waiting on replacement raw material?

Replacement packaging?

Additional new testing to ensure a healthy and safe result and the go ahead to begin supplying such sugar products to the nation again????

Who knows. However, when it comes to treacle and brown sugar, it has been very hard to spot any lately that is available for this particular would-be purchaser and gingerbread maker to obtain.

It has really been something of a mystery to find treacle, brown sugar and even some stocks of golden syrup very low, or completely non-existent, on store shelves currently. It has actually been the case now for several weeks because I have been on the look out for quite some time.

Perhaps pandemic Lockdown shipping backloads at ports both overseas and locally have not helped getting the raw primary product into the country?

Unfortunately, the world being as it is currently (rather topsy turvy, with unfortunate holdups along usual supply chains) it must be very challenging for a good number of folk, not just myself because I wish to make gingerbread and require certain sugary food products currently.

Certainly, it appears that treacle and brown sugar are not at all present on the shelves currently at the stores I have visited now in two small, local townships.

With the help of Mr Google, it appears all may not be lost however, as I may be able to make my own brown sugar and possibly even treacle.

I will however have the need of molasses…………………….

Mmmmmmm, I will have to now change course and investigate to see if that is still available at local supply stores.

The quest for primary ingredients required for gingerbread making continues…..
